Send Autoresponder Emails from Shopify Forms

Autoresponder Emails in Simply Forms let you automatically send a confirmation or acknowledgment email after a customer submits a Shopify form.

You can enable the Autoresponder and customize the email subject and message directly in the form configuration. For common confirmation emails, you don’t need to create a separate Shopify Flow workflow.

Why Send an Autoresponder Email?

An immediate email lets customers know that you successfully received their submission.

For example, after a customer submits a service request, you can automatically send a message confirming that you received the request and explaining what happens next.

How Do Autoresponder Emails Work?

You can enable the Autoresponder from the form’s Configuration settings in Form Builder. Once enabled, you can customize the email subject and message to fit the purpose of the form.

How Does Simply Forms Know Where to Send the Email?

Simply Forms needs to identify the customer’s email address before it can send an Autoresponder Email.

The customer must meet one of these conditions:

  • The customer is logged in to your store, or
  • The form includes an email field mapped to Customer Property – Email

Customer Property Mapping tells Simply Forms which custom form field contains the customer’s email address.

For example, you can label a field Work Email, Contact Email, or simply Email and map it to the customer’s email property. Simply Forms can then use that address for the Autoresponder.

Autoresponder Emails or Shopify Flow?

Simply Forms also integrates with Shopify Flow, which can send emails as part of more advanced workflows.

Use the built-in Autoresponder when you need a straightforward confirmation or acknowledgment email after a form submission.

Consider Shopify Flow when you need more advanced automation, such as:

  • Branching based on form answers
  • Different actions for different submissions
  • Customer tagging
  • Customized workflows involving other Shopify resources or apps

The built-in Autoresponder handles common confirmation emails with less setup, while Shopify Flow provides more flexibility for complex workflows.

How Can Merchants Track Autoresponder Emails?

Simply Forms records customer interactions on the submission timeline in Shopify Admin.

From a submission detail page, merchants can see when the customer submitted the form and whether Simply Forms delivered the Autoresponder Email.
