Let Customers Select Past Orders in Shopify Forms

The Order Select field in Simply Forms lets logged-in customers select one of their past Shopify orders directly from a form.

Instead of asking customers to find and manually enter an order number, you can add an Order Select field that displays their previous orders in a dropdown. When a customer submits the form, Simply Forms also connects the selected order to the submission for easier follow-up.

Why Use an Order Select Field?

Many post-purchase forms need to know which order a customer is contacting you about.

For example, you can use Order Select for:

• Customer support requests
• Warranty claims
• Returns or exchanges
• Product issue reports
• Other post-purchase requests

Without an order selector, customers may need to copy an order number from an email or their order history and enter it manually.

With Order Select, they simply choose the relevant order from a dropdown.

How Does Order Select Work?

Add an Order Select field to your form in the Simply Forms form builder.

When a logged-in customer opens the form, Simply Forms retrieves that customer’s past orders and displays them as options in the Order Select dropdown.

The customer selects the relevant order and submits the form along with the rest of the requested information.

Why Does the Customer Need to Sign In?

Order Select only works for logged-in customers because Simply Forms needs to identify the customer before retrieving their past orders.

You can add a Sign-in Prompt to the form to make this easier.

If a visitor isn’t logged in, the prompt provides a link to sign in. After signing in, the customer is automatically redirected back to the form page, where they can select one of their orders.

What If the Customer Can’t Find the Order?

Sometimes the relevant purchase may not appear in the customer’s Shopify order history. For example, the customer may have purchased the product through another retailer.

You can combine Order Select with Conditional Logic to provide an alternative.

For example: Which order is this request about?

• Select one of my past orders
• Other

If the customer chooses Other, the form can display an additional field where they can enter an order number or other purchase information.

This approach lets you support both Shopify orders and purchases from other channels in the same form.

How Do Merchants View the Selected Order?

After the customer submits the form, merchants can review the selected order along with the customer’s other answers on the submission detail page in Shopify Admin.

Simply Forms provides a direct link to the associated Shopify order, so you can open the order without searching for it manually.

This makes it easier to review the order and the customer’s request together when handling support cases, warranty claims, returns, or other post-purchase requests.
