Dropdowns are a convenient way to let customers choose from a predefined list, but finding the right option can become tedious when that list gets long.
Shopify Simply Forms now supports searchable Dropdown fields, allowing customers to quickly find an option by typing instead of scrolling through the entire list. Enable Search with One Click
In the Form Builder, select a Dropdown element and enable Enable search in its settings.

Once enabled, customers can type in the Dropdown field to filter the available options and quickly find what they need.
This is especially useful for forms with longer lists, such as:
- Products or product categories
- Models or product variations
- Countries or regions
- Other large sets of predefined choices
Add a No-Value Option
Dropdown fields can now include a customizable no-value option, such as:
— Select an option —

This gives customers a clear starting point before making a selection. If you don’t add a no-value option, the first option in your list will be selected by default.
The no-value option is particularly useful when the Dropdown is marked as required. Because the initial option has no value, browser validation can require customers to make an actual selection before submitting the form.
Populate Dropdown Options Dynamically
You don’t always have to input Dropdown options manually. Simply Forms also supports populating option lists through APIs.
For example, the built-in api/products API can retrieve the current product list from your Shopify store and use it to populate a Dropdown. Combined with Enable search, this is especially useful when your store has a large product catalog: customers can start typing to quickly find a product instead of scrolling through a long list.

Simply Forms provides additional built-in APIs for dynamically populating form options. See the Simply Forms Form Builder documentation for supported APIs and configuration details.
A Better Experience for Long Dropdowns
For a short list, a standard Dropdown remains simple and effective. For longer populated lists, enabling search can significantly reduce scrolling and make it easier for customers to find the right option.
Combined with features such as Conditional Logic and API populated option lists, searchable Dropdowns give you another way to build streamlined, user-friendly forms for your Shopify store.
